Tamara, Talia, and Carly, (19, 17, 15), founded an organization known as L.E.A.R.N. (Let Everyone Assist Reading Now). They love to read and could not imagine their lives without books. They want to give kids the same opportunity to read that they have. L.E.A.R.N. is a non-profitable organization, 501(C)(3), that began in 2003 when the girls set a goal to collect 500 books. That goal has been exceeded with over 5,000 books, and still growing.

When L.E.A.R.N. began, its goal was to enhance school libraries, but soon realized, through donations to school libraries in the Los Angeles area, that students could not take home books from the school library. Reading requires practice and not having books to read outside of the classroom, makes learning to read a lot more difficult. L.E.A.R.N. now donates books directly to teachers' classroom libraries, so students can bring books home and continue reading outside of school. The more money and books L.E.A.R.N. collects, the more students can be helped. L.E.A.R.N. will stop at nothing to help fight the battle against illiteracy.

Remember, everyone is welcome and anyone can make a difference.
